Flow of aqueous humor
Aqueous humor maintains intraocular pressure and nourishes the lens and cornea. It is produced by folds in the ciliary epithelium called ciliary processes. After aqueous humor is secreted in the posterior chamber, it flows through the pupil into the anterior chamber. The greater part of aqueous humor drains via Schlemm's canal into the scleral venous sinus. A small portion (15%) enters the extracellular space of the uvea and sclera (uveoscleral pathway).
Intraocular lens
The lens of the eye is covered at its lateral margin by the iris and lies directly behind the pupil. The lens capsule surrounds the lens entirely, providing structural support. On the anterior portion of the lens, between the lens capsule and the lens fibers, lies the single-layer epithelium, which homeostatically regulates the lens and continuously produces new lens fibers. Lens fibers form the bulk of the lens, with new fibers forming a shell around the old fibers, creating a structure of newer outer fibers and older core fibers.
