📌 Mnemonic: At 1, 2, and 3 years, a child uses 1, 2, and 3 words in a sentence, respectively.

Red Flags & Referral - Code Red Chatter

  • Immediate referral is crucial if a child exhibits any of the following:
    • No response to sound or vocalizing by 6 months.
    • No babbling by 12 months.
    • No single, meaningful words by 16 months.
    • No spontaneous, two-word phrases by 24 months.
    • Stuttering that persists for >6 months.
    • Any loss (regression) of speech or social skills at any age.

⭐ Absence of babbling by 12 months or single words by 16 months is a critical red flag requiring immediate evaluation.

Language Disorders - Tangled Tongues

  • 3-word sentences and knows full name & gender by 3 years.
  • Can tell a story and asks the meaning of words by 4-5 years.
