Pattern of joint involvement and clinical symptoms of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) with severe extra-articular manifestations
Systemic JIA (Still disease): fever (thermometer), lymphadenopathy (green lymph nodes), serositis (serosa of the lungs, abdomen, and heart), splenomegaly and hepatomegaly (enlarged liver and spleen), transient exanthema (rash on arm)
Psoriatic JIA: psoriasis (rash on leg)
Enthesitis-related JIA: associated with chronic inflammatory bowel disease (inflamed intestine), may progress to ankylosing spondylitis (red lumbar region), enthesitis (red circles)
The most common patterns of joint involvement are circled in red. If associated with uveitis, the eyes are shown; bilateral involvement is common in psoriatic JIA, while unilateral flare-ups are common in enthesitis-related JIA.
